Green Glastonbury

Glastonbury has a wonderful mix of innovative thinkers, many of whom could be said to be thinking and living ‘outside the box’.Therefore it is hardly surprising that there is a very active, vibrant, local response to the global ecological crisis. From 'slow food' to eco-housing to eco-psychology. If you want to know more, look at the links on the right hand side of this page for a little taste of what is happening here.
Glastonbury is an official 'Transition Town'. For information on what this is and to see their calendar of events see their website. Link on right.
Whilst you are here, we would like to welcome you as an honorary member of the Glastonbury community. As such, we invite you to consider the following :
Consider local growers and producers. Think global, buy local. This is a small but incredibly positive action each and every visitor can choose to take which helps to strengthen our local community.
When considering where and what you are going to eat whilst you are here - why not choose local food? Ask B&B's, restaurants and cafes if they source local produce.
Visit our outdoor market every Tuesday and take a look at the County Market on the same day in the Town Hall – lots of homemade goodies. Our monthly Farmers' market is also worth a visit.
If you are self catering, order your local food in advance and have it delivered through one of the local box schemes. (Local food lovers guide available at the PRC).
Consider transport. This starts from the moment you start planning your trip to Glastonbury. You may use plane and car or rail transport to get here, but when you finally arrive in Glastonbury, consider using local transport or hiring a bicycle.
There are lots of great cycle routes on the levels which also have the advantage of being just that - level! (for more info see the somerset cycle routes web-pages) Also consider leaving the car and walking.
This is where Avalon meets Glastonbury! Take these measures for yourself and get to enjoy the feel good factor of taking small steps in the right direction; take them for your children and for your grandchildren.

And so the revolution unfolds! We don't have to wait for it, we can be it, live it now. Another world is possible and necessary and here. We are its co-creators, it's dreamers, it's defenders, it's midwives, guiding it to light, bringing it to birth. |
